Learn to Row (18+)

For those interested in taking up a new sport with a view to rowing and competing with our senior squads, our primary intake is via taster sessions and/or learn to row courses which take place in the summer months (usually July/August).

For those interested in joining the Leisure and Progression group, a weekday learn to row course is being planned for April 2019.

To be notified of the plans for 2019 courses when they are finalised, and how to book your spot on them, please email us at indicating your preference for Senior or L&P learn to row.

There is no obligation to sign up for membership after your session or a learn to row course, we’re not pushy, you can simply come and try it out before making any decision. If you do have questions in the meantime please don’t hesitate to contact us:

Joey Clark, Men’s Captain –

Sophy Nicholson, Women’s Captain –

Darren Woodford, L&P Coordinator –

We are always on the lookout for coxes across all of the squads, and aim to integrate new starters into the experienced squads throughout the season. If you fancy using your leadership and communication (rather than fitness) skills to help a crew achieve their full potential, then email .

Senior (18+) Men’s and Women’s Squads

Our senior squads aim to compete locally and nationally, and train on the water at the weekend throughout the year, with land training taking place on weekday evenings – weekday water outings are also possible in the long summer evenings!

Our main intake into the senior squads is through the summer learn to row courses, with the rowing season beginning in September each year.

If you are an experienced rower moving to York and/or returning to the sport, please contact our Squad Captains at any point in the year with a brief summary of your experience, reasons for wanting to join YCRC and for more information (no need to go through Taster sessions)

Leisure & Progression Group

Our L&P Group are an extension to the men’s and women’s squads and meet regularly for coached sessions on Tuesday & Thursday mornings, with many rowers taking to the water on other weekday mornings.

Due to popular demand we are currently operating a waiting list of interest which goes well into 2019, but have a weekday learn to row course planned for April 2019.
