The Leisure & Progression Group was set up to cater for the growing appetite for non-squad rowing in the City of York.
We welcome people of all ages and aspirations and – through relaxed but structured coached sessions – help them to develop both competence and confidence on the water.
We primarily scull (that is, two oars per person) but occasionally row in bigger sweep boats.
Coached sculling sessions are currently held 9-11am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and are being rolled out on Saturdays at 1-3pm>.
We operate a waiting list for beginners, with taster days and subsequent ‘learn-to-scull’ courses held in the Spring and in the Autumn.
The social aspect of our group is really important too. The members regularly meet for post-session coffee and cake, informal get-togethers and even the occasional beer (or two) after a sunny summer outing.
To register your interest, please email Hilary Howe the Leisure & Progression Group Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will contact you when we are able to offer you a place.
Experienced rowers or scullers are also welcome to join us after establishing contact either via email or in person at one of the session times.
