Men’s Squad

Competitive Rowing & Racing

menscaptain@ycrc.co.uk

The Men’s Squad is split into Senior Rowing and Masters Rowing. Both sections are racing squads and train with this in mind. If you’re new to rowing, you’d start as a Novice with the Seniors after one of our taster sessions in the summer. We train all year round starting with head season September – April and sprint (regatta) season May – July. This year we are looking to expand our senior men’s squad in particular so even if you’ve missed the summer taster sessions do still get in touch to see if we can accommodate you. We are a friendly, fun, open and committed group of athletes competing in all boat types on a national and local level in regattas and head races.

men-henley

As a Squad we have competed at the highest level, our seniors regularly compete at Henley Royal Regatta and our Masters at World Masters Championships in Varese Italy and World Masters Championships at Lake Bled in Slovenia 2017 where our number of wins brought us to 7th overall!

Senior Men

In order to be fit and effective enough to compete, we ask squad members for a minimum commitment level of 4 days a week with the more experienced members of the squad consistently doing 8+ sessions a week as part of an annual training programme. We train Monday – Thursday from 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 07:45 – 12:00. The mid-week Winter months are gym based, weights, ergos and circuit training. The lighter, spring/summer months are spent on the water in crew and small boats.

Masters Rowing

Although the Masters section operate a slightly less commitment intensive programme this does not mean that we are any less successful. Our primary water time for Masters is Sunday mornings and mid week training consisting of Ergo’s and circuits in Winter and water sessions in the lighter months.

For more information on either section of the squad please contact our Men’s Captain.
