Competitive Rowing & Racing
We train all year round with the year starting with Head Season September – April and Sprint (Regatta) Season May – July.
The Men’s Squad is split into Senior Rowing and Masters Rowing. Both sections are racing squads and train with this in mind. If you’re new to rowing, you’d start as a Novice with the Seniors.
As a Squad we have competed at the highest level, our seniors regularly compete at Henley Royal Regatta and our Masters at World Masters Championships in Varese Italy and soon World Masters Championships at Lake Bled in Slovenia 2017 – training has already started!
In order to be fit and effective enough to compete, we ask squad members for a minimum commitment level of 4 days a week with the more experienced members of the squad consistently doing 8+ sessions a week as part of an annual training programme. We train Monday – Thursday from 6pm and Saturday and Sunday 07:45 – 12:00. The mid-week Winter months are gym based, weights, Ergo’s and circuit training and lighter, spring/summer months on the water in crew and small boats.
Although the Masters section operate a slightly less commitment intensive programme this does not mean that we are any less successful. Our primary water time for Masters is Sunday mornings and mid week training consisting of Ergo’s and circuits in Winter and water sessions in the lighter months.
For more information on either section of the squad please contact our Men’s Captain.
Coaching is all on a voluntary basis and we’re always on the look our for more volunteers! If you are experienced in rowing and interested in taking on a coaching role please do get in touch with our Men’s Captain.
We simply cannot do it without our coxes! If you enjoy motivating people and have the confidence to back this up we want to hear from you!
Interested in joining the Men’s Senior or Masters Squad but don’t know where to start? Complete beginners are welcome! Take a look at our Learn to Row page for more details or drop us a line.
